Midlife Mantra: Saying “No” Without the Guilt

“I’m really strapped for cash. Can I borrow $5,000?”
“I’m moving next weekend. Can you help?”
“I know you’re an expert in this subject matter. Can I pick your brain for a bit?”

No, no, and no!

Ever feel guilty saying “no” to someone? You shouldn’t. People will try to subtly pressure you into doing what they want. Don’t allow that. Saying “yes” to everything uses up your valuable resources — your time, your energy and, in some cases, your funds.

You have to acknowledge that you can’t do everything. You aren’t superwoman, so don’t stretch yourself too thin. And you know what? Sometimes you just don’t want to do something.

So don’t. And don’t feel guilty about saying “no”.
