#2. Laugh Lines

combating midlife negativity

You’ve had a lifetime of laughter, and maybe it shows on your face . . . through your laugh lines.

Should you be discouraged by your laugh lines? No. Celebrate them.

Your laugh lines — they are your badges. They represent times of happiness, frivolity, joy and good times. Remember that time you and your best friend played catch-up after not seeing each other for five years and you laughed your way into a little snort? Or what about ten years ago on Christmas morning as you and your siblings reminisced about your wacky childhood and you laughed so hard tears streamed down your face? Or maybe it was yesterday, when you totally lost it after watching a stealth lizard scaring a kitten. (It’s okay; I laughed at that one, too).

See what you just did there? That laughing? Yeah, it might produce a few lines in the long run, but think about the memories you’re building. I’d say that’s a midlife win . . . wouldn’t you?

I agree! A few or many laugh lines are not worth holding back because you don’t want the lines. Really after a certain age the only one seeing us and looking at us closely and clearly is ourselves. So take off the readers, bifocals, look away from the magnifying mirror and laugh!

A wonderful sentiment, Haralee — I love the way you put that! I have a few lines here and there. I don’t necessarily freak out about them, but I know they’re there for a reason, and they show how much joy and laughter has been in my life.

The expressiveness of our face is so important, and we wear our lines as a proud reflection of that! So much better than watching Sandra Bullock not be able to move her facial muscles because of botox. Ugh.

Shari, I think I laughed a little too hard at that! 🙂 And you are so right; our face can be so full of expression; it would be a shame to hamper that. Thanks for joining the conversation.
