Bringing the Funny: Keeping it Clean with the Godmother of the Charlotte Comedy Scene w/Tara Brown

We could all use a good laugh every now and then . . . amiright? Laughter has so many benefits, including lowering stress, burning a few calories (but don’t rely on it solely for your weight loss regimen!), protecting the heart, and improving our mental health. Who knew?!? So how about some clean comedy?

On this episode, my guest is Tara Brown and she believes in bringing the funny. As a midlife comedienne herself, Tara’s routine includes hilarious insights on being a midlife woman. She’s a clean comedy, steering clear of the unnecessary vulgar and obscenity found in a lot of comedian’s material.

Tara’s comedy journey began out of boredom — no joke — and it’s been all uphill from there. She performs clean and family-friendly comedy and has shared the stage with nationally touring headlining comedians including Ilana Glazer, Cristela Alonzo, Ryan Hamilton, Jimmie “JJ” Walker, and the late John Witherspoon. Tara has been featured on WBTV-TV, WJZY-TV, WBT Radio, The Lancaster News, Carolina Gateway, and The Charlotte Post. CharlotteFive.com named her as one of “The Standup Comedians You Need to Know in Charlotte;” while Queen City Nerve named her as “Best Comedian” for 2019 in their “Best of the Nest Readers’ Picks.” She’s also the most recent winner of the “Jeanne Robertson’s Comedy with Class Humor Competition.”

In addition to that, Tara is the co-host of the Preachers Kids podcast, which can be heard on the Queen City Podcast Network; and her “Clean Comedy Corner” can be heard on iHeart Radio. Tara’s Dry Bar Comedy special will be released in 2021.

Tara’s favorite quote is:

“A new broom sweeps clean, but an old broom knows the corners.” ~Jamaican proverb
