Midlife Skin Care Review: Albertini International

I’ve never subscribed to a full-on ‘beauty regimen’ – you know, spending 10 minutes gently cleansing my face, followed by an oatmeal mask, astringent and bringing up the rear with a moisturizer. At best, my routine consisted of tepid water, a soft washcloth, the soap du jour and a smear or two of moisturizer (a/k/a whatever lotion was on the counter). Oddly, this seemed to serve me relatively well over the years and my skin is now a far cry from what it used to be when I was a heavily pimpled teen with pockmarks, blackheads and pores large enough to drive a truck through.

Aside from an occasional pimple that sprung up once or twice a year, my skin never gave me much trouble in adulthood. Even still, I began to notice fine lines creeping in here, a touch of dryness there…

And then I discovered Albertini International’s Skin Care Line. Can I just say “Yes!” to Albertini International? When it comes to midlife women, they get it!

Valorie Albertini, the creator of Albertini International, and business partner Janice Petit de Mange have created an entire line of face and body skin care products for the fabulous 40 and over set, and it may change the way you look at skin care.

warm loveRecently, I embarked on a pumpkin scented journey with Warm Love, an exfoliating mask crafted from pumpkin, papaya and pineapple enzymes. Someone should have cautioned me not to use this while hungry! My olfactory senses were gifted with an aroma that immediately transported me back to my mother’s kitchen during Thanksgiving…I wanted to eat my own face.

Warm Love, which promises to purify, gently exfoliate and brighten the complexion, was a hit right out the tube. Once I applied it to my face and began to gently massage it into my skin in a circular motion, the warming effect coupled with that wonderful fragrance brought a newfound energy to my face. After adding a bit of water and continuing to massage, I felt like I was getting a spa treatment right there in my own en suite. Two or three times a week is all it took to leave my skin revitalized, smooth and, yes, even supple. That’s right…I said it.

And the lovefest didn’t stop there.

rough loveI availed myself of another product which I have now dubbed my “Shower Salvation”. Albertini International prefers to call it Rough Love and, as the name implies, it shows your body all kinds of lovin’, but it’s a rough kinda love. Don’t worry…you’ll be all the better for it after the first use.

I used the black granular body scrub—made with rosemary leaf oil, algae extract, sea salt and other nourishing and skin protecting ingredients—in the shower after cleansing. Rough Love worked to exfoliate and rid my body of rough and bumpy skin and, if that weren’t enough, it also softened and smoothed my coarse problem areas (the elbows, heels and, oddly, that area just above my knobby knees).

I start the nights by using a balm to take off all my makeup and sunscreen. Then I use a cleanser, acid toner, facial mist, and moisturizer! Since I started this routine my skin has looked so much better!

    • Valerie Albarda says

You know, Nicole, when I was in my 20s, I was so bad about taking my makeup off at night; I just didn’t do it. Thank goodness my skin didn’t suffer dramatically from that. Thanks for joining the conversation!

  2. BusyWorkingMama says

I love skin care products. I wash my face twice daily, morning and evening. As I’ve aged, it’s gotten drier so I moisturize twice daily. I like to exfoliate once a week or more with a scrub.

    • Valerie Albarda says

I’ve gotten into exfoliating, as well. I try to only do it once a week so as not to overtax my skin. Thanks for commenting!

    • Valerie Albarda says

You’re welcome, Jennifer. The body scrub is an essential product for me! 😉

  3. Valerie Earhart says

I cleanse and moisturize. I love this skin care line. I have sensitive skin and can use everything with no worries.

    • Valerie Albarda says

It’s a great skin care line, Valerie. Thanks for entering the giveaway. BTW, great name! 😉

  4. Wehaf says

I use a gentle cleanser every evening, and a moisturizing sunscreen daily. I exfoliate a few times a week.

    • Valerie Albarda says

As we age, we need to be gentle on our skin, especially our face. You’ve got the right idea! Thanks for entering.

  5. Daniela Plume says

I use coconut oil to remove makeup, wash my face wild mild soap, and moisturize

    • Valerie Albarda says

I’ve never tried coconut oil as a makeup remover, Daniela, but I was using a mild soap. Thanks for entering the giveaway and good luck.

  6. Julie says

I use a gentle cleanser, a serum morning and night and daily moisturizer with spf and a nighttime moisturizer as well. I also try to exfoliate regularly.

    • Valerie Albarda says

Julie, I didn’t use to exfoliate, but once I discovered Warm Love, well…. And thanks for entering the giveaway.

  7. Kim Niland says

I be sure to remove all make up at night, then apply a moisturizer. I use Olay soap to wash my face. I apply moisturizer in the morning before the foundation. I use a mask one a week.

    • Valerie Albarda says

I used to be so bad about removing my makeup, Kim. Now, I wear so little — a little eyeliner and sometimes lipstick. Good for you for getting rid of all the makeup before bedtime. Good luck and thanks for entering the giveaway.

  8. Heidi c. says

I wash my face twice daily followed by application of moisturizer, lighter with SPF for daytime and thicker for nighttime.

    • Valerie Albarda says

Heidi, when I was a teen, I had really oily skin. Now that seems to have balanced itself out. Thank goodness! But a good moisturizer is a wonderful gift to our faces! Thanks for entering and good luck!

    • Valerie Albarda says

It seems the sun is worse on our face than anywhere else, Tammy. Good for you on using sunscreen daily! Thanks for entering the giveaway.

  9. Marlene V says

I wash my face every evening. Cleanser, toner, eye cream and moisturizer. In the morning I put on a moisturizer with sunscreen.

    • Valerie Albarda says

I started using eye cream, Marlene, but I don’t use it religiously; I think I’m doing it more as a preventative measure as I don’t have any crows feet or bags…yet! 😉 Thanks for entering the giveaway and good luck>

  10. Mary Beth Elderton says

I use a very gentle face wash along with a lighter moisturizer for day and a heavier one for night. Because my skin is so pale, I make sure to use a moisturizer with sunscreen when I am outside.

    • Valerie Albarda says

Mary Beth, fair-skinned people need to be extra careful in the sun; good for you for using that sunscreen. Good luck in the giveaway!

  11. Stephanie Doucette says

I first remove my makeup, then I use a cleanser, then a toner, then a clearing treatment, then eye cream, then a moisturizer. I exfoliate twice a week, and use a hydrating mask once a week.

    • Valerie Albarda says

Thanks for commenting, Stephanie. You know, I’ve never thought about adding a hydrating mask to my routine. Good tip!

    • Valerie Albarda says

I’ve never heard of those, Alyssa. Well, now there’s Albertini International! 😉 Thanks for commenting and good luck in the giveaway.

    • Valerie Albarda says

You’ve got a good schedule going there! Thanks for joining the discussion.

  12. candace whitlock says

Albertini international is completely new to me but it sounds like a great brand!

    • Valerie Albarda says

It was new to me as well, Candace. Don’t you just love great discoveries?!? 🙂 Thanks for joining the conversation and good luck in the drawing.

    • Valerie Albarda says

Lesley, the more I hear women say they wash makeup off their face, the more I laugh at myself; years ago, I NEVER washed my makeup off – I sort of let it just rub away. To this day, I’m still amazed that I don’t have super horrible skin.

  13. Elizabeth R says

I exfoliate a couple times a week and have recently been trying an overnight mask treatment. It is supposed to help with dark spots, I hope so!

    • Valerie Albarda says

I’m like you, Tiffany; I don’t wear a whole lot of makeup. A touch of lipstick and maybe eyeliner and mascara is all I do. Thanks for joining the conversation and good luck in the drawing.

  14. Leslie Crosbie says

I wish that I started taking care of my skin when I was younger but until recently all I did was wash my makeup off at night! Now I use a cleanser & moisturizer!

    • Valerie Albarda says

I hear you, Leslie. I was reckless with my makeup. Luckily, my skin is a forgiving force. I was pimple-faced as a teen, now my skin is doing far better than I thought it would at 53 years old.

  15. Barbara says

I use a “brightening” (ha) cleanser in the morning, adding an exfoliating cleanser to it on alternate days; then I apply a glycolic serum and during the winter, a light moisturizer. If I’m leaving the house (I work at home), I always put something with SPF on. At night if I wore makeup I do a full-on cleansing routine with an alpha hydroxy wash, followed with a light aha lotion and some undereye cream. No make-up, I take a swipe at my face with a cleansing cloth and pray to the pimple gods. Make-up really, really makes me break out if I don’t get it off my face at night.

Sheesh, that’s one heck of a routine. I didn’t realize I did so much to my face. The good news is I’m creeping up on 49 and I barely have any wrinkles, I guess. It has other issues.

The rest of me, I try to keep clean and moisturized. I need to exfoliate more. 😉

    • Valerie Albarda says

Wow Barbara…that is a lot! 🙂 But it sounds like it’s all to your benefit!

    • Valerie Albarda says

Do you find that helps, Wanda — using lotion at night, I mean? I try not to go to bed with too much ‘good stuff’ on my face. I don’t like anything that feels heavy.

    • Valerie Albarda says

Thanks for responding, Catherine. Do you use a special cleanser or just soap and water?
